I can't say enough good things about Maiwa! The School of Textiles has world class workshops; the supply store has everything you need - dyes, additives, fibre - for natural dyeing; and the Online store is staffed by caring humans who communicate promptly and are most accommodating. I have been dyeing with their natural dyes and fibre blanks for almost 2 years and am very pleased with the quality and service!

While I've been a maiwa customer for over a decade, I really enjoy this location. Hannah is very helpful to talk out a dye plan with! I have always appreciated their commitment to the craft and high quality of materials.

The store is so wonderful the staff always greet us with a kind welcome. The choices of mixed media products is great. The staff are generous with their knowledge.

Their website says: “Closed Weekends and Holidays But ... We often run workshops on weekends, if we are running a workshop we are open.” (As of June 2, 2019) When I arrived during a workshop, and mentioned this policy from their website, the person working said I needed to come by during the week. I suggested that they should update their website to reflect this, and the person was unable to hear that feedback graciously. She said no one else had ever had a problem before. She asked why I wanted to come in, and said she could let me in if I knew exactly what product I wanted to buy. I felt discriminated against, like I wasn’t wearing the right clothing to be shopping at Maiwa as a gay working class person with a natural dying practice. Other folks intending to take them up on their word should be aware that they will make a judgement as to whether you are worth letting in.
