Absolutely adored this place ! It was everything we needed and more. Kinda even felt like home! The staff were all very friendly and helpful ; great to talk to as they were also travellers. The stories, laughter ,atmosphere and hospitality is something to remember! Will definitely be returning anytime I’m visiting St.Johns !
I love the HI St. Johns City Hostel! It is a home away from home. The location cant be beat-walking distance to Signal Hill, Quidi Vidi, The Rooms Museum and George Street. I am always amazed by the talented musicians found in the pubs just a 5 minute walk from the Hostel. A beautiful city that I love!
What a warm welcome we received at this hostel. The friendly staff welcomed us in and made us feel comfortable right away. They told us of place to see and things to do. They invited us along on their outings. The room and shower was very clean and comfortable. Thanks for the hospitality. Will definitely be back anytime we’re in St. John’s.

An absolutely great stay at the hostel. The staff were ever helpful and it was a great place to meet people from all over the globe. The shower is hot and and has great water pressure and the beds are easy to make up upon arrival. The hostel is also located in a great area to base yourself in St John’s and it is very easy to get to all of the nearby sights. It’s reasonably priced and I’d recommend it highly for anyone travelling in the St John’s area.
I really, really loved the location of St. John’s City Hostel! It’s a 2-minute walk from the harbour, which I soon discovered was my favourite part of town due to all the fun nightlife and shopping throughout the day & night! From there it’s also pretty easy to walk or get a taxi to anywhere. Plus, the pubs on George Street are really cool. You’re also definitely going to get a good night’s sleep in fresh linen, which is always a bonus. Really clean and safe environment throughout the facilities too. The staff are also amazing and its management is super attentive and friendly. There were at least two girls who checked me out on the last day who wore huge smiles and were happy to chat away without the feeling of forced customer service you get in plenty of hotels. I would recommend City Hostel if you’re looking for a more comfortable environment than party hostels near clubs, but are still looking to meet other travellers and learn about the Newfoundland and Labrador culture that emanates from downtown St. John’s.
Friendly atmosphere, fantastic location. Rooms are large with lots of space. Really enjoyed our stay here
