It was our first time buying cakes from Ruelo. There was a queue in front of the shop because they only allow two customers inside each time during the lockdown. Everyone was so excited to try their Chinese New Year Collection. Luckily we only waited 15 mins in the cold weather to get inside. We did not order online in advance so many special items were sold out. These were the items available by the time we get to go in for our purchase. If you want to get exactly what you want, you should order from their website at least one day in advance. The four mini cakes that we bought were: 1. Ruelo dark chocolate which is their signature 2. QQ Mandarin with Yuzu & chestnut cream inside 3. Cherry Blossom made of mixed berries mousse 4. God of wealth with osmanthus lychee inside The mini cakes not only looked very attractive and cute, but the taste were really wonderful. Each cake had it’s own unique flavour and not too sweet. They were a bit pricey but it was worth it during special occasions.

Absolutely a nightmare to pick up an online order on Valentine’s Day. Curbside pick up is not organized at all. There is a sign to ask people to line up outside but some people just call in to cut the line and while others lineup outside in the cold. Phone line is always busy and if you are lucky enough to get through, you are allowed to cut the line. They should treat everyone fairly and equally. I will not buy from this store again because they didn’t even apologize to the people who respect the rules and lined up. Bad management to say the least. Even though their cake isn’t bad, there are many other cake stores who offer much better service and more organized.

Their cakes are so delicious and pretty !! Got so many options ! Love the purple one(jasmine or some sorta floral taste) and the green one ( pistachio I believe) .

I’ve tried their food before and it’s pretty good, but they need to work on their service. I ordered an Lunar New Year afternoon tea set (100) for pick up at 1:30pm today and we arrived a bit earlier because we know there’s probably a line up. Around 1:30pm when we finally got into the store, the waitress said we need to wait for another 15-20 minutes because the food is “on the way” coming from their kitchen (probably the Scarborough location)? But they didn’t apologize for the inconvenience. They simply “informed” us about the delay. We ended up waiting in the car for 25 minutes and I had to call them to follow up. Again, no apologies were made. If a customer placed an order and you confirmed that it is ready for pick up at 1:30pm, it means the food should be READY for pick up at that time. And if you know there’s a mistake on your part (whether it is due to traffic or not), APOLOGIZE. Everyone’s time is valuable.

I've bought 3 types of their cakes. They always amaze. The guava/jasmine is probably the prettiest, perfect for the ladies and sure to impress. My brother and mom like the blueberry flavor the best. And the mango is good too! Still have to try their pistachio and chocolate :) if you're ordering for Mother's Day, expect a long lineup! It's worth it though. Bring a podcast or play a game while you wait in line. Or come early!
