We have a 10 year old furnace in Poco, which was cycling oddly, run for approximately four seconds then cut out. We were getting no heat in the home during winter and everyone had place heaters in their rooms to stay warm. We had previously use another company for yearly cleaning and installing an a/c unit. Turned out these Ace(s) were not Pro as advertised. We called Derek, who shifted things around in his schedule to accommodate. Words cannot aptly describe how HAPPY we were and are with Derek's service, knowledge, and commitment to ensuring things were done CORRECTLY. Turned out, our furnace was not a unit sold in Canada and there were many challenges finding the parts. I have no idea how much of his own time, Derek put toward researching the unit, finding the correct parts (not available in Canada), then passing the information on to me so that I could order them and there would be no mark up. Derek tried multiple solutions in an attempt to try to keep cost as low as possible and not replace the entire unit. Derek came to our home, often on his own time, to and from other jobs, in a persistent obsession to solve the problem, usually without extra charge to ensure the job was done correctly. I felt that Derek was had an extraordinarily high level of INTEGRITY and very TRUSTWORTHY. Take this for what it's worth but Derek will be my FIRST and ONLY call in the future. Thanks Derek!
Derek successfully completed my new home in North Vancouver. A fantastic trade who did my HRV, Air conditioning and fully ducted heating systems. I was very happy with his service and professionalism. I have referred his business to other builders in the industry. After 4 years, the system is running perfectly. I had problems with my furnace blowing cold air, at random, every couple of weeks. I had HVAC companies come twice; they charged me over 100 each and said they couldn't fix the problem unless they were actually on site to see it happening. ie. They gave up. I called Derek Babcock last spring. He told me to write down the furnace codes (flashing light sequences) whenever they appeared. After I gave him that information he came to the house for 2 hours, did the regular furnace and fireplace servicing and cleaning, made a first attempt to solve the furnace problem with a 79 part, and ordered a new burner to replace a rusty one in the fireplace. Total cost: 395 minus the Fortis rebate. During the summer, he came back, installed the new burner (105), and did not charge me anything for his time. I only paid for the part. In September, I had him install a new hot water tank. He also spent an hour doing more work on the furnace and didn't charge me for that time. His methodical troubleshooting paid off: the furnace now works like new. That's superb service! Derek is personable, honest, and professional. I especially appreciated his willingness to teach me how to better care for and maintain my fireplace and furnace.
