Honesty, integrity, and expertise are all qualities that are essential for a home inspector, but I've had some bad experiences with inspectors in the past. Mike stepped up and showed himself to be different from the rest. From the beginning, he was kind, thorough, and transparent about his services and his opinions. He charged less than some of the other inspectors from which I'd received quotes, but not because he did less work—he just seems to have a strong drive to treat customers fairly, so he quotes with fair prices. I really appreciate that he has a civil engineering background. Since one of my biggest worries was having foundation/structural problems, I knew I'd be in good hands having him look over the property. In his inspection report, he pointed out details about the house that we hadn't considered, and gave tips for repairs that we should make once we purchase the house. He also explained why different repairs should be considered, and noted the level of urgency (or lack of urgency) for each. He was able to show us where foundation repairs had been made in the past, how they were done, and how we might need to repair them in the future if it came up again. This gave me the peace of mind I needed to move forward with the property. But above and beyond his normal inspector duties, Mike showed himself to have integrity every step of the way. He was endlessly patient, refused to engage in behavior that could be a conflict of interest (even when we asked him to recommend contractors, he wouldn't because it could be a conflict), and he even gave us a discount at the end because our property wasn't as complex to inspect as he had originally thought. Who does that?! We were willing to pay him the agreed upon amount and he gave us a discount after the fact without us even asking. This guy is the real deal and I'd trust him to inspect any property. He's going to be my go-to inspector for every property from now on. Seriously. Hire this guy. He's the best.
