Over many years, through thick and thin, Star Building Materials has been quietly donating and discounting materials to support construction programming at Lord Beaverbrook High School. The generosity of Stephan Lucas and the rest of the Star team has enabled LBHS students to learn how to properly frame floors, roofs, and walls. Star provided the materials to build a fence around our outdoor building area to keep debris, leaves, and weather from impacting our course. Star has provided materials that our special needs students have used to create planter boxes for community gardens. Star has also provided materials that have allowed our students to practice before competing in the Carpentry category at the Alberta Skills Competition. Thank you Star for giving back to our community, and supporting future and current Alberta tradespeople!

Update at the end: Ordered a garage package from them to be delivered on a Friday morning, and it didn't show up Friday at all. They did call to let me know but it was delay, delay, delay, finally got it Saturday. Then all of the 2x4x8 studs that I had ordered with it came in different lengths. Some were 96 1/8, some were 97 1/4, and basically anything in between. I had to spend two hours just cutting them to length before I could begin any real construction. Their response? \Well lumber comes from different mills with different tolerances\. But if that's the case, I would have expected two or maybe even three set lengths, one from perhaps each mill, not complete randomness. To me, this was supposed to be a garage *PACKAGE* ready to assemble, not rough lumber where literally every piece needs to be cut to length. If I'd hired a carpenter I would have been out several hundred extra dollars because of the wasted time. And they weren't willing to compensate me on the lumber costs at all. Oh and to top it all off, for my 22x24 (depth width) garage they sent me 22' trusses. Instead of 24' trusses. So now the trusses are useless to me, and I expect they'll try to charge another delivery fee and probably a bloody restocking fee on top of that. Update: They were willing to not double-delivery and restock fee me, so that's good. The mismatched lumber sizes was still not great, as was not having the option for gable-end trusses (would've saved several hours).
Excellent customer service by sales representative Rod. Went over and above in helping me design and build my first dream garage. If your new to building any project/garage would highly recommend contacting Star and talking with Rod.
Requested a garage package quote and the guy I dealt with, and I won't mention his name, almost sounded like I was annoying him. He provided the quote on time and it was pretty good, but getting any additional detail is arduous. I know it's a busy time but I guess I just expected more on the customer service side. Bumped it up from a 2 star to three when I finally heard back because I do want to deal with them.
Selena at Star building took great care at ordering our All Weather Windows for us. Knowledgeable, precise, and immediate service especially on a tricky order. Really appreciate the fine work.
