Probably the worst entity to deal with. Not for enforcement of standards of practises but if you want to register. Be prepared to be ghosted, receive zero to no response from the entity. It is a level of bureaucracy that simply isn't required and basically keeps regular people from achieving prosperity. You want to start a company and follow the rules. This entity is going to stall you to the point in which it isn't even possible. It is so bad that it is almost worth writing your MLA to discuss this crown corps dismal performance.

Double parked at a seniors home. Been there all day. Great job. Making it safe for seniors, right?!

Haven't taken out an electrical permit in years as technical safety never show up for inspections and simply pass the work. They always seem to be on vacation.. Electrical permits are no longer required as they PASS the work regardless if they do show up or not. Or if a permit is taken out or not, its the same thing.. Hire a qualified electrician with liability insurance and run to your bank with the permit fees..

As a retired multi-trades ticket holder I am struggling to pay the renewal fees on a fixed retirement income. Before my retirement I could claim employment expenses to these fees and the exam fees to renew my licenses. Now I cannot! Because of my retirement after decades in the trade industries I have to give up my licenses as I cannot afford the fees? Through the years since its establishment, Technical Safety BC has steadily transformed from a "SAFETY FIRST Authority" for the sake of ensuring trade safety codes, procedures and licensing are followed, to sadly a "MOMEY FIRST, SAFETY SECOND" organization. It has grown into a TOP HEAVY, ever expanding, overly paid executives bureaucratic money grabbing machine. In the name of SAFETY, with the blessing with the BC government, this institution operates like a BUSINESS as demonstrated by the forever expansion of various fees, license fees and examination fees. Technical Safety BC is fast becoming another ICBC!

Hi everyone! DO NOT get gas permits for replacing a gas appliance they just rip money off of you for nothing. Just hire a licensed gas fitter to connect your appliance. I have replaced my gas appliances at home WITHOUT permits and hey guess what? NOTHING happened 119.00 bucks for replacing a gas stove and no inspections. What is the 119.00 for? They don’t keep records of what appliance you replaced and I ahd no problems of even selling my home.

It's impossible to leave a review without leaving stars. While I understand the need for techsafety. I also understand that we are in times of a pandemic. But while most businesses adapt for a future with covid and offices already open up for business including most restaurants, techsafety has been slow and ineffeciant in the 4-5 months that we've had so far in making a response to covid-19. My issue stems from the fact that students at training institutes are unable to take their "b" license gas exam, as of right now at my training institution there are over 60 students waiting to write their "b" gas exam which is needed for many reasons but the biggest one is it's a stepping stone to demanding more pay from an employer. From what I'm starting to hear from instructors is that the exam might be written 6 months down the road and they are creating review courses to ensure students are ready to write the exam. So while I personally spend the next 5 weeks hammering gas knowledge into my head when it's fresh, to prepare for a hypothetical exam that isn't going to happen we are expected to have the same knowledge as someone who was able to write the exam after completing their training while in school. Tech safety continues to take our 400 dollars per exam so that they can continue operations and they are unable to provide the service. They should not be collecting money. Also solutions should be more hastily found. If the exams are done on computer, all it takes is an open gymnasium at BCIT with proctors to ensure no cheating is done and be filled out with scantron. If we are still able to do our red seal exam through the ITA, there should be no reason that tech safety can not provide the same service.
