They've always been polite and professional when I've dealt with them. The only time's it's been slow in my experience was when some traveller was being obnoxious and causing problems. Have your stuff organized and be respectful and you won't have any issues. Of course they ask strange and sometimes personal questions - it's part of their job to see if they can trip people up who are lying.
Worst experience ever. These people have nothing better to do than ask insanely personal questions. The customs guy with the last name Maher asked if I watch porn. Stay classy, Canada.
In all my travels have never experienced a ruder more unprofessional CBP staff than at YWG.
