This sculpture was inspired by remarkable history of Teramoto family, emigrants from Japan and one of the first Japanese settlers in Brampton. The Teramotos moved to British Columbia in 1920s. During WW2 in 1941 Etsuji Teramoto was arrested by RCMP (allegedly because he was dangerous to national security) and moved to detention camps, first in Alberta and then eventually to Angler in Northern Ontario. His wife and seven children were placed at Lemon Creek family detention camp in the B.C. After the war they all moved to Brampton, were they established gardening business, selling they products locally, as well in Toronto and Hamilton. For family contribution to the local community and to honor they experience, Teramoto Park was dedicated and this sculpture was erected for the brave spirit of survival despite the destructive challenges and above all the inspiring and living strength of family.
