This area is a first for me. Maybe I over looked it for so many years and today walked right into it and stuck out with all the snow covering the ground. Interesting area and stone carvings. Got to remember this spot in the summer and take some more photos.

A stunning and unexpected art installation. I appreciated the accompanying plaque to denote the artist and this works title. From the Don River Valley Park website: Artist Duane Linklater initiated the Don River Valley Park Art Program with a striking installation of cast concrete gargoyles on the Lower Don Trail. The sculptures are cast replicas of gargoyles adorning prominent buildings in downtown Toronto. Linklater’s project stems from an interest in the structural changes made to the Lower Don River as it became an industrial hub in colonial Toronto. The artist asks the viewer to look closely at the trajectory of Toronto’s history and the changes made to the natural environment with the development of cities in settler societies. The gargoyle as an icon communicates power and authority; it is a protector of a certain kind of colonial space. Linklater proposes to re-deploy or re-purpose the figure of the gargoyle in relation to the Don River. Linklater’s gargoyle sculptures focus attention on the Lower Don’s role in Toronto’s industrialization, while sparking a larger conversation regarding ongoing Indigenous and colonial occupation of the city. The sculptures are a long-term installation in the Don River Valley Park.

A great surprising find on the lower don trail south of Pottery Road. It would be nice if there was some signage to indicate that they are by Duane Linklater. It showed up on the gps cycling app and they are called Monsters for Beauty. Amazing sculptures by a talented artist. Definitely a hidden gem in the heart of the city that deserves recognition. The gargoyles and sleeping sculpture and woman are lifelike with great attention to detail. We loved them!

Cool art sculptures scattered around the park. The artwork is based off different monsters from corners of roofs based around the city. The artist recreated the monsters of the historic building (either still standing or since torn down). It's quite the sight to see while biking along the lower Don Valley trail

Another untouched and unexpected surprise when biking along the Don trail. It's quaint with a nice pull off the bike trail to relax and admire. Not car accessible. I personally wouldn't make a trip out there just for this, but would couple it with other sights around the area like the brick works or Torden Mills.
