I read about Helping Families in Need and thought this would be such a great place to donate to, but unfortunately, I’ve changed my mind. Ray asked me to send a detailed list of items to be donated which was the contents of a 2 bedroom home. He quoted 125 for pick up in a few weeks. We needed it sooner so he quoted 300 for the coming Tues. Anthony showed up on Tues. and said Thurs. would be better and he’d bring extra people. He said he’d call Wed to give me the time. Never heard from him on Wed. so Thurs morning I called Ray and he said Anthony would be at the warehouse within the hour. I waited. In the afternoon I got a call from another person who said he’d pick up on Friday and confirmed that I was paying 300. I said it had to be Thurs. and he said he’d call me right back. 2 hours later he called and said he’ll come and pick up the 10 boxes. I explained that it was the contents of a home. He said he could do it for 400 and that he’s a 3rd party and only got a call from Helping Families in Need a few hours ago. He said he has to pay his employees and that it cost money to take things to the junk yard. I was flabbergasted! I said this is not junk. He asked me several times if I had the money with me and if so he would do the pick up now. From the start I told Ray what I was donating and how soon I needed this done and I made no changes, so why all the hassle? Makes me wonder who is Helping Families in Need hiring and what are they doing with the items they collect and where is the money going. In the end, I hired another company to do the pickup. The interesting thing is that I emailed Ray that evening and told him all about this and how disappointed I was. That was 4 days ago and no acknowledgment from Ray or anyone from Helping Families in Need.

George and Anthony, two volunteers, showed up on time, and were extremely pleasant and respectful. I would highly recommend Helping Families in Need.

Everyone should donate all their spring cleaning and what not around the house here. This is one of few places in Lower Mainland where they give the items to people in need. Ie new refugees, immigrants, single family, displaced, etc etc. Ray has a very big heart and helps everyone he can. Also less waste to the dump if it can be used by someone in need. Def call ahead as sometimes you can’t just show up to drop off.

I recently downsized and was looking for a charity to donate many items in good to excellent condition. Ones made known to me did not have the customer service focus for donations I found with this society. The others were either no longer picking up, would do so after a significant wait or did not respond to an enquiry. A contact referred me to this society. For that I am so grateful. When I called they responded within an hour, accepted all of the good identified & were sympathetic to my need for a speedy pick up. So much so they were at my home that evening. The pickup crew was on time, polite & friendly. For this service such a minimal donation was requested to cover expenses. I was unaware of this group of kind & community minded individuals and highly recommend them. Please consider them for any of your good items needing a new home. The are so many others not as fortunate to ever consider donating regardless of the desire to do so. Thank you to Helping Families in Need Society for all of your efforts Barbara
