Unfortunately I can not describe our experience or quality of the food... I made a reservation through Open Table for Saturday Aug 6th for our anniversary and it was confirmed through email. We arrived there at 7pm to find the doors locked and the lights off. No sign or note on the door as to the reason why. Maybe they are closed for good? Won't know as I don't plan on trying them again anytime soon.

We made reservations for a table for 6, and explained that we were going to a show at the concert hall, and needed to be gone by a certain time. We had plenty of time according to the waiter. The waiter was very slow to take our order, but was prompt to get us drinks. After that, he never checked on us to refill water or offer more drinks, which all of us wanted. 2 of us got up to get the pitcher of water for our table. The food took way too long, and arrived well after the time we indicated we wanted to leave to get to the show. There was no Parmesan cheese offered, strange for an Italian restaurant, especially when you order a pasta dish. Not an attentive wait staff, and the food was just okay. I asked to speak to the manager, and he heavily discounted our bill. Really, all he had to do was come and talk to us throughout the evening, apologize for the bad service, and offer us a complimentary drink. There are far better Italian restaurants in the city with far better service, so I would not return, EVER!
The fresh ingredients, perfect cooking techniques, and authentic dishes are all strengths of Ristorante Dona Onesta. Whether you are looking for a nice night out with family, friends or your significant other, consider Ristorante Dona Onesta. It is a gem among what Winnipeg has to offer in Italian cuisine.
Went for a special occasion with a large group, we booked more than a month in advance so they knew we were coming. Since we were 22 people, the staff told us to expect a 30-45 minute wait after ordering, which is totally reasonable. However after waiting 2.5 hours, only four out of our 22 entrees started to arrive. I ordered spaghetti carbonara, which when it finally came was still mostly raw. The pasta had clearly come from a box, and was so undercooked part of it was still stuck together and could stand up straight. Our group left very disappointed.
Exquisite taste and quick service! Price is upscale reasonable.
Taste was good, but the portions were smaller than expected for the price
I had the Insalata the berry vinaigrette and goat cheese it was recommended by the server and it was perfectly refreshing for a cold winter day. The Salmon risotto was perfection and finished off with a pear tartlet. I was with a group of 4 and everyone enjoyed their meals. I tasted the lasagna it was heavenly with the white sauce and the La Bamba also very tasty dish we all shared. There were many more things on the menu that I would love to try. I will be back.
This is the 2nd time we have been there but this time for dinner. The bread basket put on the table was too toasted to the point it was hard to bite into and could not soak up any oil/balsamic vinegar it was served with. I had their seafood risotto which came with mussels, clams, calamari and 2 types of crab meat. When I tasted it, there was no flavor or depth to the dish - just fishy because they used clam juice. The calamari was like eating rubber and after about 2 pieces I couldn't eat it anymore. The "Crab meat" was imitation crab meat (pollock fish) and I didn't see any real crab when I picked through the dish. When I go out and order seafood I expect I'm actually getting seafood not an imitation of seafood. Very disappointing to know it came out of a package....as I'm sure the rest of the "seafood" did as well.
