Brand new tower and more to come. Great food for our elderly and caring staff. Ideally located in the Chinatown area

My mother was admitted to this facility in January of 2016, prior she stayed in a metro located facility after a particular nasty fall. Villa Cathay is culturally sensitive both in daily meals provided and staff interactions with her residents. It spells volumes for Chinese Canadian elders, it is like coming home. The facility also provides weekly spiritual care, exercise classes, art and craft classes and regular entertainments such as dances and karaoke facilitates by outside volunteers. My mother gained weight, became more upbeat, and is getting along nicely with her flatmates and staff. One thing about Villa Cathay staff, they care. Being the only sibling in town, it falls on my shoulder to visit mother regularly. I got the unique opportunity to observe, and I am impressed. I have no hesitation in recommend Villa Cathay to any family who is looking for a HOME for their elderly parents.

I have never experienced the kind of care for seniors that I saw at Villa Cathay. I'm a dentist. I went to many extended care homes to look after the seniors' dental needs. It was always with a heavy heart that I go to these facilities. Invariably, I would see elderlies left at the end of corridors or rooms without any companionship or stimulation. Many times, residents would call out for my help. It is a sad reality that due to lack of funding and staff, care homes simply do not have the resources to provide care that we as children want to see afforded to our parents. We feel helpless and guilty. We simply cannot take care of our parents safely at home. After hip surgery three years ago, my mother had to spend a few day convalescing in a care home. Luckily, she was able to spend the time at Villa Cathay. My eyes were opened. My heart was touched. The staff, every single one of them, cared for each and every one of their charges with patience, love and RESPECT. I had never encountered RESPECT at other facilities as a rule. Sure, there were good nurses and aides here and there but not as a universal practice that included each and every staff member. Villa Cathay is unique because of the staff. They are FAMILY. To the residents. To each other. Many work there till they retire. The chief dietitian that just recently retired has been there for 39 years, since Villa Cathay started. This is a common occurrence, not an exception. Not many people know of Villa Cathay because only their residents' family know about the care. That must change. People need to know about Vilka Cathay. I think if anybody is looking for a residential care home, there is no place better. I was asked by Villa Cathay to join their Board three years ago. How could I refuse. It is my and everyone's duty to do what we can for our seniors. We owe them that much.
