At about noon on August 27, 2020 I was approached on Menzies Street by a confused elderly woman who asked me for help. She was in desperate need of a washroom. She informed me she had requested help at the New Horizons Activity Centre and was turned away. I found the woman a washroom to use and guarded her scooter while she used the facilities. I could not believe that New Horizons would not help this woman so I went to New Horizons to inquire if this was true. Indeed it was!! The female supervisor in the front office told me that yes it was true. She said they turned the woman away because of public health regulations. Public health measures notwithstanding, they could have offered assisted if they wanted to. They simply chose not to assist, and conveniently used public health measures as an excuse. I told the supervisor that I thought this was shameful behaviour. They could have found a way to help the woman. The supervisor started hollering at me telling me to \write my MLA\ if I didn't like it and then followed me out to Menzies Street yelling at me like a crazy person. This supervisor showed a complete lack of compassion and empathy for an elderly woman. So much for \we're all in this together\. New Horizons Activity Centre is funded in part by public money and I would expect them to do better.
