They ruined the forum software on the VW Vortex website and likely other websites and they got rid of the blog that contained VW news and stuff also they lost many other features although at least they added a dark mode and kept most of the forum posts but losing our blog and other features was a bad idea and they need to return the features to our website

I can't relate with the previous feedback. To maybe try to explain some of the other negative comments... VerticalScope moves small & large community sites to our large and newer infrastructure which sometimes means road-bumps and change (which established communities can sometimes have a challenging time with)..

Their forums are an absolute joke. They force updates on them and then remove more and more features (which you pay to add back) and pile on the ads to "add relevancy and make it more user friendly". What a shameful excuse for a company. The corporate superpowers flex their strength. I knew they were trouble from the beginning and the team has sure proven that.

A few years ago these guys took over an online community that I've been a part of for over a decade. Initially their ownership was transparent and pleasant - simply being available when issues were identified and assisting with administrative requests from the site's existing leadership team. Then - late last year - everything changed. My guess is that internally, they made a decision to "streamline" operations and consolidate costs by migrating all their communities to a single, common platform (and likely a single web hosting provider). They moved us to a totally different environment. They migrated the old posts, but all the other content (of which there was much that was very valuable) has been lost. They claim they can restore it but haven't done so after repeated pleas. I actually had an archived copy which I put on my personal server for community access and had it live in under an hour - and six months later they haven't been able to! They are changing community rules without community leadership consultation or approval, and they constantly take the site down for hours at a time, "for maintenance", without prior announcement during peak times of the day (e.g. not a "scheduled maintenance window" at, let's say, 3 AM). Even with this high percentage of "maintenance" downtime, there are performance issues - site timeouts, long waits for pages to load, and the site goes down regularly due to server connection/configuration/database errors. The number of spammers has increased at least tenfold, and preventive safeguards that were in place before have yet to be re-implemented. I certainly don't know what they're dealing with internally, but I can say the end-user experience as a member of a community they own has been miserable. We (the community as a whole) feel like they're trying to squeeze us out of existence.

VS took over my favorite internet forum, SkyscraperCity. They are an insidious company. At first they didn't do anything bad, then they decided to upgrade the forum to a new software on a few days' notice. Afterwards, the site had many more sketchy ads (some inappropriate) and they ignored all of the user complaints. Avoid at all costs!

The customer service at this place is atrocious. Why can't I get a response via email or phone call? Something needs to change at this place.
