As a student, I know many of us have mixed responses to UW's Health Services but I am specifically talking about the walk-in clinic. Most of the doctors I've had have been average to those I have seen at my family doctor's practice in Toronto, however the nurses I have interacted with have all gone above and beyond to make me feel comfortable or help where they can. The reception has always been really pleasant to deal with as well. They are quick to redirect calls or answer on the spot questions as well as book me an appointment as fast as they can. Over the past 5 years as an undergrad I have used UW Health Services as my primary health care centre and they have been able to help in almost all aspects except x-rays, vision care, and dental care. But all the last three services can be easily found nearby campus.

As a family, we have had bad experiences with this clinic, and every time we went there, the doctors were late and they did not care about you or your time. They extraordinarily unhelpful, and slow to respond to you. Sometimes, we spend hours and hours waiting for nothing, and then they are unwilling to help. Last time, I have had an appointment at 2:45 pm, it was by phone, I was waiting for this appointment for more than a week to talk with the doctor. Suddenly, she called me at 3:35 pm (after one hour) and actually I was not ready at this time since my phone was not beside me. Then, I called the clinic, and they said ok just hold a minute, and then no one response. I cannot be imaging how I was waiting for this appointment. I was feeling in so bad mood. You know this is the second time happened to us, with the same doctor, she called us after more than one hour for our time. One of these doctors refer my wife to the wrong specialist and after a long time (four months) and when we met the specialist, he said, I am sorry, I am not the right specialist, and you have to go to another specialist. Can you imagine how the time we lost? Honestly the worst medical care possible. Never coming back again. Do not waste your time.

In February I was very concerned about having strep throat, fever, chills, very very weak and faint. After a half a week of waiting it out after a snow storm I decided to trek out to health services as it worsened and red spots began to appear. I arrived and approached the front desk and before the lady even asked why I was there, she told me I would not be seen and to try again tomorrow. I was in an awful mental state, I can't imagine how students in crisis must suffer and not feel cared for. I cannot imagine being in an emergency situation an coming here. Definitely should not be considered \service\ because they don't help or care about anyone. Also good to know their urgency of infectious illness prevention.

A student performed a blood draw on my arm. During the procedure, their supervisor pointed out their technical mistakes in front of me. I felt a sharp pain shoot down my arm and I told them it felt awful and that my hand went numb. They continued the procedure and I felt more pain. For over a week afterwards, my hand was numb all the time and tingled whenever I moved my arm or hand. I wore a sling and couldn't straighten my arm for weeks without significant nerve pain (it felt like electric shocks / pins and needles in my arm). I had a nerve injury which took months to heal. It really affected my daily life because I could not exercise, drive, type or do many other important tasks. It was also very psychologically painful for me to go through on top of a very stressful school semester. After some research, I found out the technical mistakes during the procedure are known to cause nerve injuries. I submitted a complaint and I will be going to Life Labs next time I need blood drawn.
