I have had a great experience every time. When you buy a bike from these guys you can come in and use their air pump, ask them questions, I've been given some excellent advice from the people at this shop. If you can deal with an attitude less conventional than Canadian Tire would give you, then trust me, go to uncle Jacob for your cycling needs.

Amazing experience. Uncle Jacob was very helpful and gave me a really good deal in the bike. Highly recommend visiting this place
Uncle Jacob is one of the great legends of Spadina Avenue. His shop is just across the street from Kensington Market located at the north end of Chinatown. His business was once a general used merchandise store but has since become an all out used bicycle shop with some very new looking bikes mixed in with the rest. His staff is courteous and very helpful. My wife and I visited the back of the store where they do repairs and tune-ups and we were very impressed with the bicycle mechanic who was tuning up the newly bought bike for my wife. Okay, maybe this is not your perfect shiny new bike shop; but, from my experience, this place is a ton of fun to visit. This is vintage Toronto.
Uncle Jacob's is a great place to visit if you're looking for a wide selection of bikes and fast and effective service. From what I've read, some people on here either aren't willing to have a little patience, don't want to take in second-hand bikes, or are perhaps unhappy with the service. I can't speak for others' experiences, but my time at Uncle Jacob's was efficient, respectful, professional, and it got the job done. Will be coming back!
I have been using this bike shop for the past 3 years. I was satisfied with their quick and good repair work, but I have to express my huge disappointment at their customer service. I dropped off my bike and was asked to come back in 1 hour. When I returned, they told me they did not know which part to repair and worked on it right away. I appreciate the speedy work, but they could have took repair order properly.... Also the owner told me the price for repair but I was charged for a higher price. I did not get a receipt as the store was super crowded and I did not want to get in the middle of a group of people flocking around. Later I noticed that I was charged for a higher price and called the store. The owner literally shouted at me over the phone \I don't have time to talk about it right now. Come to the store. Bye.\ then hang up the call harshly. So I visited the store and explained the situation to the cashier person and she told me the charged price was right and asked me \that's it?\ no expressing of their potential mistake..... I understand that the bike shops are so essential now, but cannot help feeling extremely disappointed at this and do not plan to go back to this shop any more. Very unfortunate that they don't see the value of their customers!!
