I think the festival is a rip-off: - seeing one movie costs 25 - tickets can't be printed at home - tickets have to be picked up in one given location, which is not necessarily the cinema where you're seeing the movie - tickets have to be picked up before 7 pm, otherwise you can only get the ticket for the movie you're seeing that day - if you don't arrive sufficiently early in advance you can miss your movie because they start re-selling tickets for people in the rush line - in spite of all that, of course there are no reimbursements I went to Toronto from Kitchener on a Friday and stayed over the weekend just for the festival. Although I left 4 hours in advance I missed my movie because I had to pick up my tickets outside of the movie theatre, due to the crazy traffic in Toronto on Fridays. The movies I got to see were great. But I could have seen them later, at home or in a movie theatre. I will not attend the festival again, just because I don't want to support TIFF for its organization and rip-off culture.

If you like films in any context, you need to go here! TIFF is more than just a theatre - it's an appreciation of film as an art form. From documentaries to Oscar short animations, to new releases, TIFF is always showing the best (and sometimes just weird) films, in cozy and comfy theatres. There are also sometimes interactive art exhibits on the bottom floor.

Most archaic ticketing system: you can purchase tickets online, but you have to pick up in person. Also good luck if you are buying them as a gift, because to pick up, you need to present ID and the credit card you used for the purchase. If a friend is picking it up, they need a hand written note and a photocopy of the front and back on the credit card, apparently for security reason. I love that bringing photocopies of credit cards is considered secure by these geniuses.

This is a great place, went to see "Mommy" last night. Lots of space and a very important point (to me anyway) all of the audience was there to see the movie versus sitting and stuffing their mouths with popcorn for 2 hours - yes nice to have a snack but sitting next a person who nosily eats crap for 2 hours is not my idea of relaxation.

The acoustics in this theater are absolutely flawless. It's definitely an upscale theater which generally don't show mainstream ultra popular films so this is definitely a place to take your significant other to experience some culture through cinema.
