***UPDATE*** 10 months after writing the original review below, I am now working as an instructor for Alec. I stand by everything I've written below about my experience but thought I should address what may be misconstrued as yet another fake Google review. I assure you that it is not, and every word stood true (still does) when I wrote this originally earlier this year. ***UPDATE*** This review is long overdue. I would not hesitate recommending Alec for your flight instructor needs. He truly does care and enjoy his craft, which translates well during flight lessons and all the other ancillary hours outside of flight training which will certainly help with your progression. He is a full time instructor not there to build hours nor is being placed there against his will. If you've done flight training before, you will have to agree that this is not the case with some instructors out there. His plane (Grob 115) is a fun little airplane to train on. The location is superb, especially if you're already downtown. Yes, costs will be higher compared to non-downtown flight schools... although really, everything is when you compare it to anything downtown. Yes, there will be a commute to the practice area... but he does make really good use of the time there and back so you will not really experience any \dead\ flight time. Training out of the Island also means that you have no choice but to be proficient in your radio work early on, which will only serve you well later on. Finally, he provides videos of your flights which, especially in the infancy of your flight training, is extremely valuable so that you are able to watch/re-watch your mistakes so as to prevent them from happening again in the future. Truly a wonderful experience so far and would not hesitate to recommend to anyone!

Alec is a true professional. I signed up for the intro course, and it was as exhilarating as I had imagined. I started off by doing some pre-work on your own to get familiar with basic concepts. Then I had a virtual session where we covered those concepts and he answered any questions I had. The next day, we took off from Billy Bishop and he did an absolutely wonderful job expalaining the mechanics of flight, what to look out for, and how to fly the plane. It was a blast!
Practical and fun instructor, patient, and always a joy to fly with. Moved from Vancouver, BC after obtaining my PPL and decided to continue with my night rating with Alec. I've had at least five instructors within my past two and a half years of flying, and Alec would definitely be on top of the list. He does a lot more than he has to - including video-taping every flight and debriefing the goods and bads. Plus, he's got a shiny, fun, and well maintained airplane he lets you fly in. He's definitely the way to go if you're looking for flight training in Toronto.
Really enjoy flying with Alec. He's an enthusiastic instructor that cares. Can't beat the combination of quality instruction plus fun airplane in an awesome location.
I switched flight schools so I can study under Alec. He’s very knowledgeable, experienced, and practical.
