I am not really a big boat enthusiast but decided to check it out when they had an open house on Victoria day long weekend. I was pleasantly surprised to see a fabulous art show at the back of the museum (see attached pics) so it was well worth the visit for me. It is very small but it would take quite awhile to read and listen to everything they had on display there.
Very small museum of maritime issues, ship models and miniature anchors to test on how they penetrate the bottom and keep the boat safe. Staff very friendly, should try to enlarge it and be more a museum than simply a small exhibition of few objects. Maritime history of this coast is definitely worth the effort.
It's a smaller museum than I originally expected, but I didn't leave disappointed. I thought it is well-curated and enjoyed reading through the exhibits. As long as you manage expectations that it isn't close to the size of the Royal BC Museum or Maritime Museum in Halifax, for example, I think it makes a quick and fun afternoon activity after lunch.
Nice place to visit. They used to be much larger but since they moved to a smaller building the exhibit area became a lot smaller. Still a good stop while in Victoria.
