Nice mini-wine tour. Walking distance from downtown, great place to discover and learn more about wine trading history! We tried the wine sample and it was great!! 4 pass for students and with the card you get to enter the commissariat house and the rooms!

We toured the Newman's Wine Vault where Portuguese Port wine was aged until 1996 when they stopped because it cause it was out of their country. All started back in the 1600's when a ship evaded pirates and pulled in here, they unloaded the port and hid it in caves. They returned the following year to retrieve this wine and everybody was clamoring for this port as it aged so well.

Cute little quirk of interesting local history, and well worth the six bucks.

Interesting part of Newfoundland's history. We came by because we had a bit of time to kill before our flight. It was worth the low entry cost, but there's not much going on in there. You get a tour and a tasting of Port wine with admission. There was a fun game of trying to guess the different wine notes/aromas. I think we were in there for about 30 min.

A short tour but very interesting. Our guide was very informative and amusing. We had the opportunity to sample some port and then to try our noses at working out what fragrances we could detect. Epic fail but fun. We came away both agreeing that we were glad we had visited.
