Our go-to place in Banff. Absolutely love the food and atmosphere. The Guinness Pie is outstanding and they also serve proper Bangers & Mash (fyi - the gravy is excellent!)

Great Canadian dishes available at an Irish pub! Got to have authentic poutine (according to a Canadian friend) and a beautiful bison burger! Different happy hour specials every weeknight (but unfortunately, we were overcharged) until 7pm, and I loved Monday's Moscow Mule. The Australian waiter made me feel right at home!

We love it here! Staff is very friendly and prompt. The hostess and server both provided great recommendations and added to the great experience. (sorry I forget their names) We enjoyed the Irish Nachos and Yorkies! I got to try my first Irish car bomb shot as well, and now I'm hooked. Will definitely be recommending St James Gate Pub to others. :)

Sure, Banff's a tourist trap - but we LOVED St James Gate! Great feel and it's beautiful inside. Great food and service. Personally, I'd recommend going to this pub - then leaving Banff posthaste. Sláinte!

This is not a place that I would write up for being fine dining but it certainly manages and exceeds expectations. I have been her a number of times now and it certainly deserves a review. My wife always gets the fish and chips which has always been good... batter not to pancake like and definitely crispy. I normally would get a burger and fries in a pub but this place has some good eats. I asked the server which I should have between the lamb stew and Guiness Beef Pie and she recommended the pie.... the puff pastry was good but not one hndred percent cooked.... not enough to raise a stink though...a nd the pie fillings were steaming hot, hearty and delicious. The onion rings were well prepared and the mussels starter had a very nice hot garlicky broth that was sopped up by the texas toast. The beer selection is excellent although they didnt have Smithwicks that day,...supply issues which are understandable during the current pandemic... but they DID have Sierra Nevada Pale Ale which I would recommend to anyone who likes pale ales. Service was prompt, efficient, pleasant and the place was comfortable and clean once again. We will return regularly
