Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre Reviews | Rating 4.7 out of 5 stars (5 reviews)

Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre is located in Whistler, Canada on 4584 Blackcomb Way. Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre is rated 4.7 out of 5 in the category cultural center in Canada. The Squamish Nation and Lil'wat Nation have coexisted respectfully as neighbors since time immemorial. We have thrived on the bounty of the ocean, the rivers, and the land, living in close relationship with the world around us. Our cultures are grounded in rich, ancient traditions, and continue to grow and evolve in a modern world. Meet our people in a spectacular building located on traditional territory, nestled in a pristine forest and mountain setting in Whistler. It is designed in the form of our two traditional dwellings, a Squamish Longhouse and Lil’wat Istken (earthen dwelling). The range of experiences available to guests include guided tours of the museum and exhibits, singing and drumming performances, multimedia presentations, craft workshops and indigenous cuisine. The Center features a “Class A” museum, contemporary gallery, interactive and outdoor exhibits, gift shop, café, forest walk and theatre. Our spectacular 15 minute film provides a spectacular visual portrayal of Squamish and Lil’wat traditional territories — featuring our languages, traditional practices and contemporary cultures. After the film, our tour allows you to view exhibits that explore our relationship to the land and objects that celebrate our traditions of art, music and ceremony, past and present. Touch screens and interactive panels showcase our languages, artifacts and seasonal use of land and resources. Take your taste buds on a journey with an Aboriginal inspired lunch in our Café. This is the only Centre in the world that has purposefully been designed to demonstrate how two distinct First Nations can share territory, knowledge, and cultural practices in a way that acknowledges the uniqueness of each. The Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre is located on the shared traditional territories of the Squamish and Lil’wat First Nations in Whistler, BC.

A very welcoming experience You are greeted with traditional drumming and song by the friendly staff that keep this gem running. There are guided tours every hr that start with a short film and introduction to the museum. This space is a gorgeous open space with 3 floors with a beautiful gift shop aswell as a delicious cafe on the lower floor. The tour itself takes about 20 min and after you are free to wonder yourself. This place is light on history but is focused on beautiful traditions like basket weaving and way of life that once was. The parking is very limited so I suggest you take the free shuttle from the village or park in the big open lot about 3 blocks away (a nice walk on a sunny day ) Bathroom are clean and very nice .You are aloud to take pictures just not in the theater room . We don't have children but this place would be nice to take well behaved children as there are a few open its not for touch . There are stairs or an elevator for baby strollers. We had a wonderful time and will go back to see the live carving and basket weaving classes they put on. A special culture we were thrilled to learn more about.

Loved it. Wish I would have went sooner When visitors come from out of town ( post covid) this will be on list of interesting places that need to be shared. Thanks for making me feel welcome.

As a local to Whistler I’ve visited the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre a few times - both pre-covid and during covid. The space itself is stunning - a beautiful place to learn about, and honour the culture, history and language of the Lil’wat and Squamish nations. Definitely check out the short film and guided tour - it’s the best way to learn more during your visit. There is a really lovely interpretive trail directly behind the building you should check out too! It’s also a great place to get married - as a local photographer I’d highly recommend the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre as an option for your Whistler wedding!

Amazing place, with such beautiful and kind people running it. The songs are delicate - I personally had three people sing a song for me the movie is great and all the learning that can be done. Very nice experience.

During my time as a driver guide I always recommended my guest to visit the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre and also try the food at the cafe. Nowadays, I do the same with my friends when we visit Whistler. Had the chance to go there again a few weeks ago and I had the salmon chowder with bannock once again, and it was delicious (as usual). You can visit the cafe from Thursday to Sunday, they are open for dine in, with reduce capacity and masks are mandatory.
