In an effort to contain the spread of COVID-19, the City of Edmonton is taking immediate action following the direction of Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health.  We in turn are following this same directive. Effective August 1, 2020, wearing a mask or face covering will be mandatory in all indoor public places. Wearing a mask or face covering helps keep you and your students safe. We need to encourage the use of face coverings for everyone’s protection, but understand that not everyone can wear a face covering. Exemptions to the bylaw People with underlying medical conditions or disabilities that prevent them from safely wearing a face covering. Proof is not required if someone has an exception. Students must: Wear a Mask- surgical or procedure mask Wear a face covering – handmade or manufactured mask made of cotton Wear an N95 if they have one First Aid Certificates – Expiry Date Extension Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, Alberta’s Occupational Health and Safety has announced that it is flexible concerning certificate expirations for workplace first aid.  First aiders who are unable to recertify their training prior to certificate expiry will have their certificate expirations extended to allow them to recertify at a later opportunity. Certificate holders must keep their current workplace first aid certificate as proof of certification, even if the expiry date has passed (applies to certificates with expiry dates on or after March 17, 2020). OHS officers will have flexibility in accepting expired workplace first aid certificates as proof of current certification. Alternatively, people requiring first aid training during this period can enroll in an approved Blended First Aid Course.  Approved Blended first aid courses are comprised of an online portion, followed by a classroom component.  Alberta OH&S will recognize proof of completion of the online component as valid certification on an interim basis until such time as the worker can complete the in-class component.  The certificate issued following the online component will clearly indicate this status.  Second Chance CPR & First Aid will schedule in-class training as soon as it is safe to do so.  Online Standard First Aid- Red Cross Link   ______________________________________________________________________ OSSA/Energy Safety Canada Certificates – Expiry Date Extension Any Certificate of Completion previously issued by Energy Safety Canada or the Oil Sands Safety Association (OSSA), that has an expiry date between January 1, 2020 and September 1, 2020 will be deemed by Energy Safety Canada to have not expired and will remain valid up to and including September 1, 2020.
