The School House Museum is owned and operated by the Rolph, Buchanan, Wylie and McKay Historical Society. It contains unique collections of artifacts, records, and photographs -some dating back over 1000s of years - illustrating the history of the Upper Ottawa Valley along the Ottawa River basins. The Museum showcases many facets of local history, such as, the people ( Native Americans, European immigrants (explorers, fur traders, loggers, pioneers, farmers, scientists, engineers, construction ), transportation (canoe, trails, steam, rail, air, road) and ways of life (hunting, fishing, farming, cooking, sewing, nursing, trapping) businesses ( stopping places, hotels, restaurants, resorts, general stores) social institutions ( schools, churches, and scouting) and industrialization (Forestry, Military, Hydro Electric and Nuclear Power development, Nuclear Research). The former four Renfrew County townships of Rolph, Buchanan, Wylie, and McKay in are now known as the Towns of Laurentian Hills and Deep River. The Museum has 4 main building which house artifacts on the grounds as well as artifacts on the grounds: • The reconstructed Rolph SS#3 Schoolhouse • The relocated Rolphton Colony Church • The furnished reconstructed Pioneer Log House • The Machine Shed for farming and logging implements. • The Russell Brothers Steel Tugboat Quyon • The Railroad Caboose
