This place was more than I expected. Rustic decor and ambience and perfectly set off the path in Prince's Island Park. Beautiful experience. Very attentive staff and great food. No dress code, wait staff and manager all dressed in jeans. But i would still recommend dressing for the occasion since the atmosphere definitely warrants it. We came for our 13th anniversary and they didn't disappoint. Best food we have had to date and that speaks a lot since we have been to some great restaurants. I definitely recommend selecting from their wine by the glass and do a couple options. Great wine menu!! I have nothing bad to say. Too bad COVID strikes again but I am happy we got in before the restrictions take affect. Once this pandemic is over though I am sure their reservation lineup will be immense. Thanks River Cafe!!

Wonderful experience! Drinking a warm cup of coffee while the cold air over the river blows was a wonderful experience! The waitress that served us (Mallory I think) was extremely polite and well mannered as well. Would definitely go back.

Celebrated our anniversary here, a day before another in-dining closure. Romantic

The best meal we have had in Calgary to date! The service was fantastic. Attentive but not over the top. Ingredients are fresh, unique and local where possible. The location is magical. Prices reflect the quality of the ingredients, preparation and presentation of the food. An experience worthwhile. A side tip: park at the curling club and walk across the bridge to Princes Island Park. Parking is free for 3 hours and the walk to the island presents an amazing view of the Calgary skyline!

I made the reservation and went with my whole family to celebrate Father’s Day. Had fun at the park and headed in right after. The restaurant was very busy. We were luckily seated outside In the sunshine. Food was nicely presented, sadly there wasn’t a dish that would draw me back for. They had an oven issue and a lady came to apologize and explained to us that the burger would take longer to arrive, and it arrived at our table right after. They took care of the for us even though we were understanding of the situation and not showing we were upset at all. They have a cute hand made high chair and we all thought that’s adorable. Overall the food was good, service was warm and considerate, atmosphere was upbeat. I mistook it as an upscale restaurant but people were in flip flops and shorts. I guess good for family and friends hangout, dates maybe, not for formal dining occasions.

River Café sets the standard for a fine dining experience with delicious menu options and outstanding service. Upon arriving for our reservation, the hostess told us it would be a few minutes wait for a table inside although they had seating outside. You get this often at restaurants but the hostesses was so genuine and friendly here that it made it pleasing to wait! They were apologetic and expressed their gratitude for our patience as a table was cleared. Our server, Lori, was as friendly as could be. She gave us her undivided attention as we gave her our orders and she was attentive to our needs throughout the evening. Her warm personality and lovely presence put a sparkle on the evening. One gentleman from the bar witnessed us drop a set of cutlery on the ground and he promptly came over with another plate and replacement set. We had the hummus to start, and the bison as a main, which was cooked to perfection. The chef even split our main in two plates without our mentioning of it. Our dining experience was memorably wonderful in all aspects - up there with Indian Accent in New York City, a restaurant on the Michelin Guide, whose service, in my dining experience, is second to none. A restaurant can impress its patrons with its ambiance and even win them over with their menu, but it's the little golden touches in their service that make people remember their experience the most. Remarkably, River Café has it all. Well done to Bruce and the entire team at River Café. We'll definitely be returning.

We came here for our anniversary and it was super romantic! Too bad we couldn't get a patio seat since they were all taken but the inside had a nice vibe too. We got the trout dish and it was good but I found the cream sauce was a bit too strong and overpowered the fish taste. The beef tenderloin steak with mashed potatoes was superrrr soft and tender, but I found there wasn't too much taste with the meat, maybe because I tried the fish first and the sauces overpowered everything as I mentioned earlier. We also tried the fresh oysters for 3.5 each and they were pretty good! River cafe is one of my favourite restaurants with lovely atmosphere

Glad we were able to experience their cozy fine dining experience before COVID shut them down. Great service, always amazed when they can memorize the entire menu. Food was delicious, but what we were most excited about was their butter. Their butter is made in house and had the most silky smooth texture and full of flavor!
