I visited the Beveridges lock station as part of my project to see all of the Rideau Canal lock stations. This lock station is located out-of-the-way just off highway #18 near Port Elmsley. The lock station consists of tow sets of locks, Upper and Lower Beveridges Locks. I’m not sure if this lock station is “technically” part of the Rideau Canal since it is a bypass of rapids on the Tay River to pass into the Lower Rideau Lake. Regardless, it is worth visiting and like so many of the other lock stations, very tranquil and peaceful. Oh yea, say hello to the lock master’s tabby cat when you visit and ask the lock master to tell you the story about this cute feline.

A real pleasure to come to these locks. The manager has maintained his zeal for customer service. It makes a huge difference to see him guide his team. Many of the other managers should think about spending a week at Beveridge to watch how Ian does it.

Very good boat launch. Deep water and good grade. Can be a bit tricky when lock opens and flow is moving but otherwise good.

Ian and the crew there make you feel at home and cater to all your needs. Incredible people who truly stand out and deserve recognition. This is our favourite lock on the system without a doubt! The paddle up the tay takes you right to Perth, all clearly marked. Be sure to stop at the Tay Marsh lookout for a nice view! Also accessible by land, but not as memorable I’m sure!
