Located on Peggy's Point Road across from the Visitor Information Centre, this was originally the homestead of the artist and sculptor William E. deGarthe (1907-1983) who was born in Finland but immigrated to Canada in 1926. For many years, deGarthe spent each spring and summer at Peggy's Cove, where he painted marine scenes depicting life on and around the rugged Nova Scotia coast. It's now a gallery and permanent exhibition showcasing a representation of deGarthe's works including perhaps his finest painting, Out of the Mist, depicting a schooner in full sail emerging from the fog. The gallery is open from mid-May until mid October each year and is part of the Nova Scotia Museum network. It's Wheelchair accessible and admission is CAD1.00; Children under 16 free.
