Used Music Box for a few years now, excellent service, shows up on time, and doesn't rush the tuning. From experience when you acquire a piano from parents or family which hasn't been played in years, the 'first' tuning takes a lot longer. Also 'first' tuning of a new piano also takes longer i think because the harp is still settling.
I had my piano tuned recently by Lawrence - he did a fantastic job. It was a piano that required an up tune (it was half a step out almost all over). It took close to two hours. Lawrence was friendly - showed me around my piano - and provided an excellent tune. Pricing was in line or less than the competition. Excellent value for service.
We've had our piano tuned by these great guys for years now. Always a great job, and they take the time to explain what they're doing.
I called The Music Box Service today to schedule the tuning of my wife's piano, a member of her childhood family handed down to her by her deceased father. I explained that I would like to have tuned as part of my wife's birthday present. The man who answered the phone informed me that he could come out on July 1st to do the work, to which I exclaimed that I would prefer he enjoy his holiday and consider July 2nd instead. He informed me that the fee would be 150 to start with, I informed him that the posted fee, on the The Music Box Piano Service website, was 100. He stated that since the piano had not been tuned for a long time, a fact I did not disclose to him, the fee would be 150. He then informed me that he didn't really need the 150, to which I replied saying I would look for the services of another tuning service. Arrogance has a whole new meaning to me.
