Even before COVID this facility had been going downhill for well over a year. No jets in the hot tub. There was a leak in the ceiling of the Classical Training Room for months, dripping right around the bench press station (they put a bucket under it). One day I asked why they decided to get rid of the cable-based leg press machine and all anyone could tell me was “Oh that’s a Rob thing”. Apparently that’s who makes all the decisions as far as equipment goes. Was grumbling to a guy about it while working out and he told me this Rob had gotten rid of, not just the leg press, but also the only dip station, the only seated calf raise and one of the leg extension machines. He said a number of people were unhappy about it, but in talking with this Rob they said his reasons were these exercises are bad for you and considered obsolete nowadays! *Facepalm* And now after COVID restrictions having been loosened, they’ve re-opened with an advance booking system, but despite having paid memberships that we couldn’t use for months they expect you to pay a 6.85 drop-in fee each time. On top of that the Classical Training Room, the main room used by people into lifting, that contains the only squat racks, plate-based leg press, preacher station, landmine and barbells/weight plates is closed “because the pool is closed”. There is no mention anywhere on the website or when booking a session that provides this information. No idea why the pool being closed prevents anyone from accessing the main training room- you don’t have to swim to get to it. Maybe they just don’t want to have to sanitize a 3rd room, but the Circuit Training room and Rehab Room are so bare bones (thanks Rob!) that it’s just not worth it to go here anymore. What a shame. I know they’re building a new facility to replace it, but construction hasn’t even started and it won’t be open for years.

Pool is good, comfort in there is nice especially with the free WiFi! The ice rink is good and well maintained and also has a back entrance closer to St George’s. Everything else is swell but they do need to work on and update their youth lounge experience.

This older facility has a done a good job at \hanging on\ . As ice rinks go the ice is above average and the change rooms clean enough. The overall facility is OK to good.
