This is a nice canal lock. It’s large enough to fit a large cargo ship and it’s part of the Welland Canal, connecting Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. There’s a canal viewing area where you can see ships move through the canal, which is pretty nice.

There is a small museum on site, which is a good way to spend an hour or so. The day we went, it was cool and rainy, but we still enjoyed standing on the platform with our umbrellas, watching a freighter being raised to the next level. We recently returned on a nicer day and watched another ship pass through.
Great 2 hr bike ride from Lock 3 to Port Colbourne, lunch @ the marina overlooking Lake Erie, then ride back in 90 min... total 68km ride! Fantastic day!!!!
