Sommer and Abby were amazing to work with! They navigated the constant changing information and rules with covid, as I found out I was pregnant at the end of March during the first stay at home order. They connected me with all the necessary resources throughout my pregnancy. When our home birth plans fell through because I had to be induced due to low amniotic fluid around the placenta at 410 weeks, Sommer gave us all the necessary information of what it would be like to be induced and what our hospital birth would look like. From pregnancy, labour and delivery and postpartum the team at New West Community Midwives made it a wonderful experience, especially during uncertain times. I would highly recommend this team for their compassionate care and attention that they provide.

When I was searching for a midwife when I first found out I was pregnant, I picked New West Community Midwives based on their reviews. They did not disappoint and were even better than I could have imagined! This was my first pregnancy and it was a great experience from beginning to end, thanks to both Abby and Sommer. Due to COVID-19, my appointments alternated between in clinic and phone visits, however, every appointment left me feeling well informed about the decisions I had to make and overall very excited. The appointments were never rushed, and they both took the time to fully answer any questions I had, and to explain each step of the pregnancy. I was given all of my appointments ahead of time, and they were always very quick to respond if and when I needed to make a change. Abby’s expertise during labour and delivery provided me with a very pleasant birthing experience, and I have nothing but wonderful things to say about that day. I wanted to do things naturally and as unmedicated as possible, and Abby helped make this possible. Abby’s words of encouragement and her ability to coach me through the pushing stage, made me feel completely calm and comfortable. She really helped get me through that stage quickly, and her professionalism definitely helped keep my husband at ease! Sommer provided us with at home care during the postpartum period, which was incredible and greatly appreciated during my recovery. Our questions were answered, and our baby boy was well taken care of. I highly recommend both Abby and Sommer! They are both extremely professional, compassionate and lovely people to be around, and will help make your pregnancy and postpartum care a wonderful experience.

I didn’t know much about midwifery when I found out I was pregnant. Many friends have raved about the personal level of care midwives provide, so I decided to look into it. I found the New West Community Midwives and picked them based on their reviews. I filled out the intake form and was accepted later the same week. From the first appointment Sommer and Abby were kind, warm and knowledgeable. Coming from a medical background I valued their attention to hand hygiene and sanitization, especially during COVID times. I appreciated how they always made me feel valued as a patient and that my questions mattered. In the past with doctors, I have felt rushed and that I have to justify myself. It couldn’t have been more opposite with Abby and Sommer, I always felt that they genuinely cared about my questions and concerns. Abby was with me for my labour and delivery. She was calm, kind and a comfort for me during the process. I really appreciated how she tailored her advice and coaching to what I needed. She was reassuring, motivating, understanding and empowering all at the same time. I really loved my birth experience and I know that’s in no small part a result of Abby’s expertise and involvement. Postpartum care was the same high quality. Abby came to the house to see my baby and I. Postpartum is such a crazy time filled with not only a new baby but little sleep, new body changes and a rollercoaster of emotions. This was all addressed in postpartum appointments. Abby empathized with all the chaotic newness and provided lots of valuable information and support. We will definitely be picking the New West Community Midwives for baby number 2!

At first my husband and I are not sure about working with a midwife since all my friends worked with a doctor when they were pregnant. Since we didn't have a family doctor back then, so we decided to give it a try. After the first consultation with Abby, I was pretty sure I would like to have midwife care during my pregnancy and delivery. Abby and Sommer are very professional and trust worthy. Unlike going to hospital/maternity clinic where you always need to wait for a long time and then just 5 min with doctor (and they don't really tell you anything but the result of your tests...), each appointment is about 30min and you learned a lot from them and know what to expect during the whole pregnancy. Postpartum care was awesome, they did home visits when you don't really want to move while trying to recover from tear. I feel so lucky to be able to be one of their clients since it was pretty packed everywhere when I was looking for a midwife. Such a wonderful experience that I totally recommend their service to every pregnant lady!

I wanted a natural, unmedicated birth and I wanted to deliver my baby with someone I could trust, someone who knows me and my husband, and who would respect my wishes with regard to childbirth. I am very happy I met Sommer and Abby! They are very caring, attentive, compassionate, and very professional. We never felt rushed during our appointments, they took their time to answer all our questions (even the silly ones), they shared a lot of knowledge about childbirth, their website has tons of very interesting and useful resourses, and they were always very patient. Sommer helped us deliver our baby girl, and she was wonderful throughout the whole process! She was on the phone with us since my water broke at home, and she was with us at the hospital every minute after we'd arrived and until our baby girl was born! I felt very supported every step of the way! Abby visited us the next day at the hospital to check on us, and even though we had our baby during quarantine, she was still able to come for one home visit to help us with breastfeeding, and do a couple more checks on our girl. Postpartum care was very good too! Because of Covid, we had phone calls instead of home visits, but Sommer and Abby were amazing even during those challenging times, they made sure we and our baby were doing well, and were very patient with hundreds of questions we had about caring for the newborn! i don't know how we would have done it without them, they provide incredible care, and they are doing a fantastic job! I miss seeing them!
