It was a lovely experience visiting the museum. The staff was great. They welcomed me when I enters the building and made sure to thank me and say goodbye as I left. They were great at knowing all about heartland and showing on a map other cool interesting filming sites within the town. They had some great recommendations for places to get coffee and food within the town. There was a heartland quiz that was challenging as there were questions from earlier season I couldn’t remember. I am really glad I took the 45 minute drive from Calgary to see this museum.

Your HEARTLAND pilgrimage should begin here! This amazing museum is located in the historic railway station in High River AB. The museum is staffed by a dedicated team of knowledgeable local talent that is willing and able to assist you in getting the most out of your trip to Hudson. The museum is accessed through a donation. Upon entering there are plenty of very interesting displays that inform the visitor of all the past and recent history of the High River (Real) and Hudson (Fictitious) locales. Parking is ample and accessible. Washroom facilities are available for patrons.
For a small town they certainly are attractive to film companies. Kevin Costner, filmed, “Let Him Go”,Clint Eastwood, made an editing/“dailies review studio” out of the local playhouse, when he made “Unforgiven”. “Fargo”, of Netflix fame filmed here, as did the series “Tin Star”, which made the museum a police station setting. Heartland of course has its home here and in the surrounding territory. W.O. Mitchell made this town his home. Those were just a few of the highlights of our visit to the museum, but don’t forget to visit the local eateries/coffee houses for some personable service and tasty treats.
Kids loved it. Wife loved it. So I had a good day. Very cool play area for the kids. We wanted to eat in the train car but there were lots of fancy dressed after church types having lunch and did not want to disturb them with our kids. Looking forward to trying it next time.
Super relaxed place to play or just enjoy nature!
Lovely museum, small but very informative.
It was great! The staff were very knowledgeable in relation to Heartland as well as the Great Flood of 2013. Super friendly!
We had a lovely afternoon exploring the museum and taking a walking tour of high river. Great staff and volunteers!
