On Sat., July 5, I boarded Le Montrealais, with my elderly dad, for what was supposed to be an enjoyable evening of good food, good company, and, to cap off the evening, fireworks (at La Ronde). My sister purchased a COUPON, FROM GROUPON, and apparently was told that DINNER WAS INCLUDED IN HER PURCHASE OF THE TICKETS. NOT SO. When we came to board, we were told, "You buy the ticket just go get on, you have to pay extra for 'the souper."" EXCUSE ME??? We were barely even able to find somewhere to SIT--FOR ALL OF ALMOST SEVEN HOURS. NOTHING TO DRINK...I had no intention of spending an evening in a dirty boat (flies--some of which died in front of me), with cracked windows, and a clientele which was drunk, unruly, and LOUD--even BEFORE WE EVER LEFT PORT!
That the liquor flowed so freely was disgusting; THERE SHOULD BE A MINIMUM, IN CONSIDERATION OF PATRONS WHO DO NOT FAVOUR "BEING HAMMERED." The cruise itself? No one even did so much as be polite. My father was clearly in distress, dehydrated, the air conditioning was (well, WAS THERE ANY?!), but we were treated as "unwelcome stowaways," it seemed. When the cruise finally ended (!!!), no one came on the loudspeaker to say, in English and/or French, that it was now safe to disembark. It was every man, and woman, out for himself...AND I DID NOT APPRECIATE SEEING PEOPLE TREAT MYSELF, AND ESEPECIALLY MY FATHER, WITH DRUNKEN DISRESPECT. I will not recommend this "treat" for anyone, especially out of town visitors, as it paints a picture of Montreal that is mot unfavourable. The time and money spent, on such a "cruise," is NOT WORTH IT. I will NEVER GO AGAIN, NOR WILL ANYONE I KNOW; I can guarantee you of that.
Shame on Groupon, this cruise organization, and what it seems to promote: As long as the liquor flows, our profts grow. ?!
