Matthew Schmidt was referred to me by one of his industry colleagues who lives elsewhere in Ontario and I am absolutely pleased that I took the opportunity to drive to London to visit Violin Atelier Schmidt. As the size of stringed instruments get larger they become more susceptible to scratches and dents. I took a fine doublebass to Matthew to get varnish abrasions repaired. Matthew matched the existing varnish perfectly and polished the instrument beautifully thereby restoring a splendid appearance to this wonderful instrument. After a lengthy discussion and after seeing his workmanship, I have come to trust Matthew's analysis and advice regarding actions required to maintain and repair an instrument. I look forward to bringing more work to Violin Atelier Schmidt as the occasion arises. Again, many thanks Matthew!
