The Learning Disabilities Society of Greater Vancouver (LDS) serves elementary and high school children with suspected or diagnosed learning disabilities. Our primary program—RISE (Research-informed Individualized Student Education)—targets student-specific learning needs and provides one-to-one, customized, evidence-based, remedial instruction. Our mission is to empower children and youth with learning disabilities to recognize their unique strengths and develop tools to achieve confidence and success. Since 1970, LDS has sought to aid the most vulnerable children in our community by making our programs financially accessible. LDS is focused on promoting community awareness and fostering a greater understanding of the issues and challenges faced by children with learning challenges. Through early intervention, we make a transformative difference in the learning and life outcomes of students. Our ultimate goal is to effect system change with wide-ranging societal benefits. In light of COVID-19, we are providing instruction online via our RISE at Home program. We’ve undertaken efforts to ensure that our robust, state-of-the-art online platform is both private and secure. Using this technology, we can deliver dynamic, interactive, and high-quality instruction without stoppage due to school disruptions or social distancing. RISE Summer Camps This summer the Learning Disabilities Society is hosting small group, safe, specialized RISE Summer Camps. Our team is designing special programming and activities that can be delivered safely in-person to exceed health and safety guidelines.
