Worked here for about 2 months or so every Sunday from about 8am-4pm. Did daily tasks such as feeding, turning out, mucking stalls, and was paid in exchange for rides. The boarders and lesson takers there were lovely, making me feel at home right away, but the owner...not so much. I often found myself being the only person around and doing most of the barn work. When doing something that was not \up to standard\ I was not told how to do it, but merely chastised. Everything had to be perfect. The boarders weren't treated much better from what I found out, either. I was even accused of leaving a very expensive saddle on the ground, and when proven innocent, wasn't even given an apology. I was eventually \fired\ for having heat stroke and not making it in, which was probably the best thing that could have happened. I was treated like a full-on ranch hand when I was working 5-6 hours and being paid with 1 hour of riding. At one point I was pretty much used as free labour due to the fact that I worked a whole day during a schooling show the barn held and was not able to get my 1 hour ride that day...was never given a make-up ride or any compensation for my hard work. Was also forced to purchase a Manitoba Horse Council membership before starting work because the owner's husband was on the council...which was a huge waste of money. If you're paying to be there, it's a lovely place as the people who frequent are kind and welcoming, but I would strongly recommend against working or volunteering there as you are taken for granted.

Can I give this place zero stars? No? -too bad. It was only a short time that I had to deal with the new owners of MRR before leaving. Unless you were interested in competitive riding and owned an expensive horse, they had no interest is costumer service and would treat you as negatively as possible for you to \make the decision\ to leave. Not to mention, once they realized what your riding intent was, their service of caring (stall cleanliness) for your horses declined. Many fond memories have now turned sour because of Sarah and John.
