I'm surprised that Primal has not gotten a better overall rating. This is my favorite place in town, and there is NOTHING to dislike about it. Great atmosphere, special menu, super delicious food, huge portions, price is very fair, smacked in the center of downtown, and great selection of beer/ciders. While I have no connections with the owner or anyone who works there, I would go literally every week. And if you haven't tried out the happy hour menu, it's probably the cheapest and tastiest calamari you can find in Halifax.

My wife and I went during burger week and while the atmosphere is very nice, the food good, the service was not great. Okay the atmosphere- COVID friendly, warm colours but asking to have your candle lit 2 times is an indication of lack of attention to details. The food- good burger but TOO MUCH BUN. Plus not enough fries for price. Finally the service- just not good. Our server was “spacey” for lack of a better word. Will likely not be back because there are better options abound in the city....sorry Primal.
Beef tartare was excellent (highlight of the meal) Bone marrow was under-done Oysters were disappointing. Poorly shucked, warm. Beef short rib was really good Limited craft beer selection Service was ok.
Perfect ambiance lighting. Food was very well prepared. Good drink selection. Got the moose antler presentation platter and unfortunately the 2 antlers were being in use so we didn't get it presented on the antlers which really sold us on the platter initially. But the food was still great overall!
