A great heritage site on the edge of the base of the Detroit River in Amherstburg Ontario. The site is currently undergoing some much needed restoration but, overall the facility makes for an interesting and scenic commemoration of the war of 1812.

This is a must see in Amherstburg. The guides were knowledgeable, polite, and dressed in character. The musket demonstration was top notch. Great care has been taken to recreate the actual feel of the fort, and the grounds are superbly maintained. We are told they cook an amazing lunch on the weekends in the cooking area, and it is delicious!!
As a War of 1812 enthusiast I was delighted to tour what remains of the fort. While not as awe inspiring as Ft Henry in Kingston, or Ft George in Notl, it has a nice museum & a sweet lad played his fife for us. It's lovely to walk around the dry ditches & sit on a bench overlooking the water. I had the pleasure of throwing rocks at U.S. coastguard boat in Canadian waters. It was a beautiful day.
This is a good place to visit to learn about the war of 1812 and the importance of the fort. During business hours the buildings are open to the public with a view to the time period, knowledge staff and on certain days reenactments. This location is also used for other activities throughout the year - Art By The River, Canada Day and other events. This is a great spot to view the Canada Day fireworks by the town. It is also close to the park/splash pad and the Navey Yard Park.
Very well educated and friendly interpreters! Such en enjoyable day!
This historic site was closed for the season until May however we self guided ourselves back into time to view and read the history of the battlefront from the outside. Plentiful informational signs to assist guiding us in front of each historic building. Would love to return in the summer to have a guided tour of the museum and army barracks.
Beautiful historic site on the shores of the Detroit River in historic Amherstburg, Ontario. Fascinating War of 1812 history, among other things. Attractive historic buildings and landscaping. Nice views of the river. Beautiful town surrounding the fort--a very pedestrian friendly area.
