In April of 2006 Eskasoni First Nation established Crane Cove Seafoods as the sole division of their commercial fishery. This restructuring allowed us to create management practices to maximize returns and growth of our fisheries operations. Presently Crane Cove Seafood’s generates annual revenues of $8 to $10 million while providing seasonal employment for 120-140 community members participating in 6 fisheries utilizing 36 of 43 licenses. Our products consist of snow crab, shrimp, lobster, groundfish, scallop, and tuna. It is the goal of the Crane Cove Seafood’s to maximize profits within the commercial fisheries to create social and economic stability for the community while trying to ensure the sustainability of the species we harvest.
