Went today for fish food. I'm not sure about these 1 star reviews, this place was clean and tidy, not dirty and grimy. I always give a place my own review as some people seem to make it their mission in life to be negative. I stopped in today, and walked the ENTIRE store, looking for these horrible conditions a select few have reported and found nothing! The small animals are in HUGE enclosures and they were very clean. All had food and water and were healthy and happy. Fish tanks were stocked with the right amount of fish and were clean. I have been into Nanaimo and shopped at the chain store and found they were stuffing their tanks with huge amounts of fish, some conditions horrible. Dead fish floating everywhere. So, saying that,I would suggest people try before they judge. The staff were attentive and were able to answer any question I had.
This place does not treat their animals with proper care! The hamsters were in disgustingly filthy conditions, that were far to small for them. Some only had bedding piled in a corner for them to nest, with bare glass floor every where else. The guinea pig was alone, which is a huge no no since they are extremely social animals and require a pair, not to mention there was nothing for either the guinea pig or the hamsters to play or stimulate their lives with. When I walked past all of them they ran to the front of their prisons, this literally broke my heart. All of the fish tanks there were also filthy with tanks way to small for the fish. Even the feeder crickets were in absolutely filthy conditions with their water source almost dried up. Also, the terrestrial gecko they had, fat tailed African gecko, was severely malnourished as well as living in absolute filth! The poor thing was living in a very small but tall terrarium, suited for a arboreal spescies not terrestrial. Lastly, the shop it’s self was extremely dirty, like it hadn’t been swept, moped, dusted or cared for in the past ten years. The only word to describe it is grimy, just utterly grimy. I hope to god they stop selling animals they are not prepared to care for properly.
