Bits & Bites

So far I am unimpressed, I have been assigned a Housing Access Worker who is inaccessible and has not returned any of my phone calls or emails. It's more than a case of plain discourtesy but rather a clear case of work avoidance - and someone you certainly wouldn't want to depend on.

My son recently died and I was shocked to learn that EmpowerSimcoe have a policy which does not permit a person pass at home, even if that person has been living there for 25 yrs. They rejected my son at the end of his life and forced him to either go to the hospital in Orillia or to the Barrie Hospice. Even the doctors at the hospital questioned his being there for everything is in place for a resident of Orillia to pass comfortably at home. This was tragic and made a very difficult time even worse. If they have a policy which can deny a person his/her rights at the end of their life when they are most vulnerable, I question their motivation and compassion.

As a person support the higher up is full of ableism, and gaslighting. They don't listen at all to disabled folks. They rely on us to emotional labor them. They go back on their word. They lack communication. And fully blame disabled person yet disabled person explained before hand how to make it more accessible for them. They don't consider hiring staff with training with mental health and intellectual disabilities yet its on the rise, they don't know what to do in proper crisis, and more. I have been with Empower simcoe since 2012. Disabled people get punished because higher up doesn't know the difference between crisis. They screw up passport funding. The list goes on.. I'm going to leave with a quote the higher up should know by Ally Henny Part of laying down your prilevges is listening to opressed people without arguing, interrogating, minimizing or gaslighting them.
