APEGA is a disgrace for Alberta. Application process for professional members is horrendous, extremely time consuming, and processing time is over 1 year. Wow! so efficient! after having a bachelor degree in engineering from canadian university with over 8 years of engineering experience as EIT, they are questioning about not meeting communication and technical skill set? How ridiculous this assessment can be? It shows how poorly APEGA is managed and how competent the decision makers are!

6 months has passed and my application is still stuck at Academic Review, I'm still puzzled as to why the review takes so long despite APEGA already requiring all applicants to have their international degrees certified by WES. A friend of mine got his academic record clearance from PEO within 2 months. It's ironic that as an engineer you are expected to be efficient, but the body regulating the engineering profession is not leading by example.

They need to learn how to talk \professionally\ first of all. Secondly they keep on losing all the files. Wish they were a little bit more organized. I had to spend money twice and get the transcripts shipped internationally only because they lost my transcripts. And I know many more people who have similar complaints :(

APEGA and similar organizations are important to have in any economy. Public safety is paramount and that's why they exist. Without such organizations engineering would be a practice that any hobbyist could join and contribute to. One may think this is ok, until a disaster occurs. Overall, it's an organization focused on public good and works on improving and standardizing the professional engineering careers and at the same time open for improvement and suggestions. On the downside, they are slow and take forever to process applications, etc. so they need to work on their internal processes to improve it more.
