While the best part about this club is not having to own your own sailboat, it's also a fantastic place to learn how to sail, both by taking the courses but also by sailing with the other members and I'm talking about from the most basic level to the very high-end sailing skills. Plus, as a volunteer-run club you can help with and learn all about boat and site maintenance and the social activites. It is a rustic, casual scene so yes, like having a cottage in the city. The final thing I like about the location is that we can choose to sail either up or down river.

I drive Carling Avenue in the west end now and then, and had seen the sails out on the Ottawa River and thought it looked like a blast! But it never occurred to me that I could be the one out there doing the sailing. Then one day on a sun-and-sand vacation, my girlfriend hopped on a small HobieCat and took off with me. Turned out this sailing thing was even more fun than it looked from the shore. Sometimes even a little wild and scary for a newbie. My kind of fun. I joined the Kanata Sailing Club when we got back. I didn’t want to buy a sailboat, so KSC worked. You take a week’s staycation, get your sailing cert assuming you pass, you sign out a club boat and start messing around in boats on the Ottawa. I’ve even begun to understand the pleasures of light-wind sailing too now, not only the wild and scary stuff. It’s been a few years and you know what, I’m still having a blast, still learning, and loving this location. I’d recommend the Kanata Sailing Club to anyone who asked.
Excellent sailing club, in a beautiful location. The club has it's own fleet of boats for members to use, offers training, and has a large social space with deck and BBQ. One of the best places in Ottawa to spend a relaxing Saturday!
Wonderful place to sail various boats on the river or learn to sail
Race nights are a blast, and it's a heck of a lot cheaper than golf!
