I was under the illusion that DUC was a hunting organization, it is not. DUC is a North American wetland conservation organization, they have a mandate, it’s clear that it is to conserve wetlands in the most effective places. They know that the people who are the most concerned about wetlands are hunters, they have tailored their fund raising to a hunting crowd (though they have expanded as other demographics have become more interested in conservation). They have also invested in growing the hunter demographic because they give the most back to wetland conservation, more hunters become a bigger support base. DUC is run meticulously, they know their business, their mandate, their customers and the laws that pertain to their actions. My illusions are over, they aren’t a hunting organization, they aren’t the gun lobby, they aren’t a regional conservation organization. I see DUC as a part of the causes I believe in, not the whole.
