Unlike most young beginners, adult learners can be difficult and sometimes demanding of themselves when embarking on learning anything new. I know this from firsthand experience having taken up cello at the age of 30. I played violin in my youth for a couple of years but not seeing the value of it at the time I recently decided that I sincerely wanted to learn to play it to whatever level possible. Practice of course is so necessary to improve however “ EFFECTIVE “ practice is paramount. Clara provides all of the structure for essential practice methods as well as recognizing and correcting technical issues with concise and clear terminology. Clara also has a great sense of humour and makes very good use of it in her instruction making the learning experience energetic and fun. The result is I want to practice and I enjoy my practice time. In just a few lessons I can say with absolute certainty that my goals are attainable!!

My seven year old daughter has embarked her music journey with Clara since her second year of violin study. Clara not only teaches the techniques meticulously, she focuses on developing my daughter’s musicality along the way, and encourages her to express the pieces beautifully. This is something often being ignored as we adults will think kids are too young to be able to fully appreciate those classical pieces… Clara is a true professional who takes teaching seriously. We feel very fortunate to have her set our daughter on the right track of music enrichment.
Clara is great in every possible way! Smart, kind, professional, and experienced — a teacher through and through. I started not having touched a violin ever before and not even knowing how to read music. Two months after the first class (in person and remotely), I can read music sheets and play pleasant notes. I look forward to every session! I highly recommend Clara as a violin teacher. She's making my passion for playing classical music with my favorite instrument — violin — a dream come true.
Clara is an exceptional performer and instructor and it was such a pleasure to come to lessons every week with her. I had several violin teachers before, but none compared to Clara. Even though I only studied with her for two years while she was in my city, I felt I improved the most under her instruction. She trained my ear to be very aware of intonation, challenged me with a balanced repertoire with pieces from all eras, and corrected every detail regarding positions, phrasing, bow hold, and style. She is extremely patient and will do drills many times together during the lesson to solidify intonation/new techniques. Every week is a challenge, but she always motivated me to improve and to persevere. She encouraged me not to give up and renewed my love and appreciation for the violin after several years of waning interest. She prepared me extremely well for competitions and exams and made me much more confident in playing violin. She truly transforms music and you will feel inspired by her passion when you hear her play. She helped me improve not only as a violinist, but also as an overall musician. I feel very lucky to have studied with her and I recommend her to anyone, at any level of violin study!
All four of my children, aged 12-18 took two years of violin lessons with Clara. Our kids are serious musicians (who have all gone on to receive their ARCT) so I am very particular about picking a suitable and capable teacher. Their levels ranged from grades 5-10 in the Royal Conservatory of Music. Clara is a skilled and experienced violinist, but more importantly, she is able to teach well. Wish we could have stayed with her longer, but she moved to continue her studies. I highly recommend her as a teacher.
I've been taking violin lessons with Jungmin for over a year now. I practiced violin for a few years when I was a kid, and wanted to pick it up again. She's a very patient and encouraging teacher. She pays close attention to positions and intonation, and correct them to make sure I build good playing habits. In addition to that, she explains music theory & background of the pieces, and intricacies in playing to provide context on technique and musicality. In terms of the teaching materials, she used a combination of scales, etudes and pieces from the Suzuki books for me. I think it's a good balance for building foundation, practicing techniques and enjoying good pieces of music. I definitely recommend her for anyone who's looking to learn violin, either as a beginner, or as an experienced player!
Can't say enough about the extraordinary improvement my daughter has exhibited from the time she started lessons with Jungmin. Thanks Jungmin!! Your passion, instruction, guidance, and skills are an inspiration for not only my daughter, but also for me. ️ I would recommend Jungmin to anyone ready to pick up a violin, or anyone ready to perform at an advanced level.
Clara is an exceptional, patient, and generous pedagogue who also happens to be a virtuoso violinist. I’m amazed every time she picks up the bow to demonstrate a phrase. We’re very fortunate that she’s currently offering lessons despite her hectic schedule!
