Arriving on the other side of the Atlantic with only $44 in his pocket, Colin began journeying around with what little he had. Colin was forced to work where he was staying when his funds ran out—and that happened to be in Gilford, Ontario, where he found work at a golf course. Colin had a culinary background, from running the kitchen of the hotel he owned with his brother back in England; when the golf course opened a banquet hall, Colin started cooking for them.
