Today’s visit to the Canadian Rockies Earth Science Resource Centre was a win. The guide gave us a great description of the geology of the Rocky Mountains. Topics included the sedimentary layers of which they are formed, the forces that raised them, and the techniques used to map them. It was great. I’m becoming increasingly fond of small museums. The displays may not be flashy (note the homemade sign) but you can see everything that interests you in a short period of time and the staff usually has time to tell you all about it.

Small but very interesting museum with a really engaging and informative guided tour from the two guys working there. I now have a much better understanding of the surrounding landscape. If you are at all curious about the history and geology of the Rockies and want to understand how they formed, this will help to answer your questions.
Very well done tour. Chris explained the geology of the Rockies very well. Being in the oil industry and working in the Permian Basin of Texas this was very informative.
Very interesting exhibits of rock formations, oil deposits, etc. It was a guided tour with a couple of very knowledgeable young lads. Well worth the trip.
Went with my daugher to explore Canmore. Chris gave us a guided tour of the Canadian Rockies Earth Science Resource Centre. It was very educational and interesting. Highly recommended!
A must visit if you love geology! This unassuming little place is a museum dedicated to the geology of Western Canadian sedimentary basic, with a great collection of fossils, rocks, seismic sections, etc.
Very interesting geoscience exhibits and friendly staff!
