Very nice place. #1) They respect my mask exemption which is actually them respecting the law. Unlike some other places out there not respecting this. #2) It was an awesome experience to have such nice traditional food.
TLDR: Very good food, dumplings: order every time, DanDan: very good, green beans: tasty but not amazing. The spice level was pretty high - for the beans there was either no spice or 3 levels of spice. I got the lowest spice level - notice how many chilies are there are Very good food although not the best Dan Dan (I’m biased) I’ve had - the dumplings were the stand out. I would live off those.
This place was exactly what I wanted for proper authentic Szechuan food. The Dan Dan noodles was amazing. Sweet vinegar basa fish was mouth watering. Ma Po tofu was spot on. On top of all this, the portions were fresh, and large! Flavours are all there and the place is very comfortable. I will be returning very soon!
OH MA GAWD. I think this place is my long lost love. AMAZING FOOD. A gem in Calgary. GET THE PEA SHOOTS. YOU WILL THANK ME LATER
Astounding food. Must try dishes include: - Boiled basa fish soup - Spicy cumin lamb - Pork belly with tofu and cabbage - Szechuan cold noodles with shredded chicken - Dried chilli pepper crispy chicken Get them "traditional spicy" if you can handle the heat!
One of my favorite place for Szechuan dish craving. The restaurant layout and design are definitely not what you would typically see in a Chinese restaurant. There are dead space areas and a lot of fake plant decorations that accumulate a lot of dusts. The seat cushions are gone which makes it uncomfortable, and it needs a cushion update. The color theme is quite earthy and not something I would associate a Chinese restaurant on my first impressions. The service was adequate, staff were knowledgeable of the menu and providing recommendations and modifying our spice level. We ordered Crispy Chicken, Basa Fish Soup, Fried Rice, Mapo Tofu, and an Eggplant with Pork dish. I recommend all of the dishes we ordered, it had the right amount of heat and numbness without being too overly spicy. Do not rush in eating these spicy dishes, take it slow and let the heat take you in. I would go back again, and try other dishes.
As real as it gets in Calgary. If you’re thinking Chinese is lemon chicken and Ginger Beef, get the “water dropped fish” for something truly special
