What a nightmare. From the start of the project, promised construction timelines were never met. A partial basement renovation that should have taken a few months was only about 70% complete at seven months – the point at which we fired Primavera Construction located at 4734 Parker Street in Burnaby. If we could have a do-over we would have reviewed the contract with a lawyer. The payment milestones were structured in a way that provided Primavera with funding that exceeds the actual value of work in place by 40,000. It's unlikely that we'll ever see that money again. In addition to that we were hit with preposterous change orders. When we balked at these ‘new’ costs, Primavera pulled their workers and equipment from our job site. Additionally, despite assurances that work would be done by qualified tradespeople, much of the work done by Primavera Construction will likely have to be redone, costing us additional thousands of dollars. We also requested through our lawyer that we receive the mandatory 10 per cent holdback as stipulated by the Builders Lien Act, which to date Primavera has refused to do. Contracting with Primavera Construction was one of the worst experiences of our lives.
